We live at a time where random people online are making more money each month than doctors, lawyers, people with PHds, and so on. The reason for this is that there is a massive amount of money to be made by leveraging what the average person is looking for online. Nowadays, companies are ditching their antiquated marketing ways and instead are going directly to the people, through the people. But what does this mean? It means that there is an enormous ability for the average person to share the items that they are loving with their unique circle of friends and make a generous income for their family. 

We are marketed to ALL DAY LONG. Whether it’s through the social media algorithm, celebrities, influencers, sports players, our local stores, neighborhood email communications, and so on. We see “influencers” with huge followings sharing links to their favorite products and we don’t bat an eye before we shop them. Therefore, we should show that same support to our close friends that are working this exact same model. 

In order to make the ideal amount of income online, you need to start with two things: service(s) and products. It can take influencers years and years to build up enough momentum online to be able to post something once and receive a generous payout. However, if you start your online business by offering both services and products, you have the highest chance of generating income in rapid abundance. 

Services = gaining trust and connection

Products = passive income

Here’s the deal…

Consumers ALWAYS want to maximize their benefit. We’re always focused on finding a “good deal” and making sure that we feel like we spent our money well. In order to be successful in marketing your business, you need to communicate clearly what you, your services, and your products will do to improve the lives of your customers. Certainly, make sure there is a high level of ethicality and honesty in your marketing and business claims. 

If you are only offering services and you aren’t leveraging product sales in your business, you are going to burn yourself out.  I am a wedding photographer that was only offering services – please take it from me! Running a service-only online business is hard and not quickly scalable. Furthermore, unless you have a high price tag AND a high demand for your services, it will be very hard and time consuming to make an abundant and livable income, especially if you want to only work part time so you can prioritize raising your family. Another major factor here is the ever changing status of the economy as a whole. Is your service something that people will splurge on even in times of economic struggle? This is why leveraging product sales is SO BENEFICIAL. Whether it’s your own digital products, products from a company that you affiliate with, or a combination of both, setting up an income stream from products is the BEST way to generate a passive income that is deemed essential the majority of the time (obviously depending on the product). Set it up, market it, and let it run automatically on its own.

Here’s my current income set up: 

I have my photography business where I photograph weddings, elopements, families, and brands. I absolutely LOVE my photography business as it provides me an incredible creative outlet while having a higher price tag. However, as I have learned over the years, I am directly trading my time for money, and I need to incorporate passive streams of income in order to be able to free up more time to spend with my children.  

This is where my newest passion project comes in: the Rewild Mother blog. I have had a lot of experience in the blogging world over the last almost-decade and I truly believe it to be one of the best ways to generate money online. Now, let’s back up a little bit. 

Picture a table with a single pedestal leg. It seems stable, right? It *should* be stable. We’re trusting it to stay put and not fail. Now imagine that a heavy object dropped on one side of the table top compromising its balance. Or, even worse, a force slammed into the single table leg causing damage. Within seconds this table has zero support and absolutely nothing to back it up. This is your life on a single income. 

Now, picture a table with four legs, one at each corner. Imagine that same force taking out one of the legs. The table is probably going to wobble and be a little unsteady for a minute, but it is not going to immediately fail. This is your life with multiple streams of income. 

Here’s how I see it, as a homeschooling mom living in an insanely expensive state (CA):

If for some unexpected reason our main source of income gets compromised (from a medical emergency, natural disaster, economic disaster, civil unrest, company layoffs, or another reason that’s always looming on the horizon) I WILL NOT uproot my daughters’ current homeschooling life that they love so much and send them to public school so that I can go work somewhere. It is my responsibility to them to always have plans in place to keep their lives stable and enjoyable. 

It is also my radical rebellion from the powers at play to be able to stay home with my children AND make an abundant living. THAT is true freedom and family sovereignty.
