In our current, unpredictable (and pretty unstable) world, having financial flexibility and adaptability is extremely crucial when raising a family. From the rising cost of groceries and gas to the instability of the economy as a whole, navigating raising a family and feeling financially stable is a huge concern. The good news is that we homeschooling mothers are extremely resourceful, quickly adaptable, and proficient in time management. Without a doubt, we have the ability to provide our children with a quality home education AND bring home our own income. Keep reading so I can send some inspiration, ideas, and real job opportunities your way.
What would you do with an extra $500 each month? What about $1,000? What about $5,000 or more?!
Could your family use an extra source of income each month? Would you save up for a big purchase? Travel? Pay off debt? Add to savings accounts for each of your children? Buy as many organic groceries as you’d like without adding up each price as you walk through the store? Buy land and start a homestead? Buy the horse that you’ve been dreaming about since you were a child? Donate to organizations that call to your heart?
I’m telling you with wholehearted certainty that it is possible to homeschool and bring in an income. Whether you choose to run your own business or work for a company, you undoubtedly have it in you to manage both. Our capacity to handle everything expands when we need it to.
Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine what kind of work opportunity you’d like to find:
- What amount of time can you allocate to working?
- Do you have a routine weekly homeschooling schedule or does it significantly change each week?
- Do you want to work standard business hours or during the afternoon / evening?
- Do you want to run your own business or find employment within a company?
Alright, now for the fun part! Below is a list of income ideas that I have brainstormed, researched, or learned about from other mothers. Certainly, many of these jobs require certain skills, education, or other investments in order to begin bringing money in. My hope is that some of these ideas bring inspiration, and eventually, and income!
Entrepreneurial Services / Freelance Jobs
Photography – this is a great option for a business that allows you to work opposite hours from your partner’s traditional 9 to 5 (if this is your current situation). Most weddings and events take place on the weekend. Additionally, the best time for photoshoots is either early morning sunrise hours or evening “golden hour” at sunset. Obviously, I’m a little biased because I’ve had my photography business for years now, but I believe this to be a wonderful business opportunity where you can tailor your availability exactly to what season of life you are currently in.

Direct Sales / Affiliate Marketing:
Partnering with a Direct Sales company and representing their products is a great way to add a stream of income to your business! Let it be known: the only people that have something negative to say about direct sales companies are the ones who aren’t making big money from them. When done ethically, they are a wonderful business option! Here’s my personal recommendation:
- Green Compass Global (CBD): I first found Green Compass CBD back in 2019, and I still absolutely LOVE this company. I have chosen to partner with them because I truly believe that they are the best of the best AND their products are so necessary for overall health + wellness. They have a wonderful compensation plan and they give you the framework to build a very profitable business. If you are drawn to holistic and naturopathic living, then incorporating herbal product sales (like Green Compass CBD!) in to your entrepreneurial endeavors is extremely smart! If you are interested in learning more about the products or would like to chat about what it would be like to partner with them as well, please feel free to email me directly at kaleigh@rewildmother.com.
